When things don’t go as planned
Hi ,
The past few months have felt like riding a roller coaster that has gone off the tracks. Most if not all our plans, travel, meetings with friends or family sit waiting for another day. This extreme uncertainty brings a surreal heaviness that challenges our emotions.
Discomfort and disruption of our lives and routines jolts us into new realities. But it doesn’t stop there. We hold within ourselves the power to learn and remain standing in the midst of feeling unsure and uncertain. It’s called courage.
Instead of stewing over what I cannot control, I follow the advice of Twyla Tharp in Keep It Moving: “Each day expect one miracle—one instance of elegance or beauty from the world—it’s your right. It doesn’t have to be big. Go into the garden each morning to see what has blossomed.”
Be brave. Be hopeful. Be you.
Inspiration worth sharing . . .
This week, I accepted a challenge for writers to give their version of a wake-up call to the world. My response came in Wake Up! It Matters to Listen Carefully, Now. Do you ever hear the call of Mother Earth to stop and reflect on the consequences of our actions?
Graduations across the country looked very different this year. Brené Brown gave the commencement address for the University of Texas. Her message to the 2020 class of college graduates gave them sound advice in Don’t Be Afraid to Fall.
Music can soothe a frazzled mind or a fearful soul. I keep a playlist whenever the craziness of the world begins to swallow me. This Bob Marley song lifted my spirits this week. Yes, Bob, “every little thing gonna be all right.”
Inspiring words . . .
“Sometimes the best thing you can do is not think, not wonder, not imagine, not obsess. Just breathe and have faith that everything will work out for the best.”
