Hello friend,
“I’m not at all creative!”
But, oh my dear, you are. We all have a thread of curiosity that fuels our imagination in extraordinary ways.
Artists, writers, musicians, filmmakers, and sculptors don’t have a monopoly on inspiration. The realm of original ideas belongs to all of us—if we are willing and brave enough to try something new and persist at making something only we could create.
I’ve listened to colleagues solve complex problems and create engaging learning opportunities for children and adults. That’s creativity in action.
Vegetables come out of our garden after months of watering, tending, pulling away weeds, and harvesting nature. Cookies formed from dough mixed and rolled and baked with care fill the kitchen with sweet memories. An artful arrangement of roses, zinnias, cosmos, dahlias, and baby’s breath bought or picked outside the door provokes a smile, a hug that lasts for days.
That’s creativity in action.
Whether it’s a poem, a watercolor, or rearranging the furniture, our curiosity envisions and brings to life a touch of splendor to the dullest of days. No one is excluded because creativity belongs to each of us in all forms, sizes, and limitless possibilities.
Maya Angelou says it all: “You can’t use up creativity. The more you use, the more you have.”
What will you create today?
I wrote about how I started looking for creativity in all the best places.
The late Sir Ken Robinson’s TED talk on creativity never ceases to remind me of the power of the mind.
Songs to encourage your creativity: “Pure Imagination,” “A Million Dreams,” and who couldn’t be inspired by Kermit’s “Rainbow Connection.”
"Creativity is piercing the mundane to find the marvelous."
—Bill Moyers
“Yet a life of creativity is all about change--moving forward, taking chances, exploring new frontiers.”
—Austin Kleon
“A creative life is an amplified life. It's a bigger life, a happier life, an expanded life, and a hell of a lot more interesting life”
—Elizabeth Gilbert
