Hello friend,
We have choices.
This week, I chose to look for something good—a hunt for signs of the goodness in people and life around me. I found a cup overflowing, reminding me that in the midst of chaos and tragedy, hope lives in everyday acts of lovingkindness.
A friend I hadn’t spoken to for several years called. That in itself was a blast of joy. But the idea that a memory of a good time we had together prompted her to pick up the phone and call. That was something good.
Another friend gave me a crinum lily bulb in a white paper bag, a little gift. The bag sat in the refrigerator for months before I put it in the ground where it lay hidden in the dirt. And then, green leaves, and this week, a lovely bloom, something good.
The line of cars in the traffic seemed to stretch for a mile, especially since I was tired and ready to be home. Everywhere I looked, drivers inched along, daring anyone to try to get in their way. Until I watched two kind people, leaving a space for others to exit a parking lot to merge safely into the melee of vehicles, something good.
As the sun set, I watched the geese and ducks fly across the lake, honking and quacking. Red-wing blackbirds, cardinals, bluebirds, and mourning doves joined the chorus. Fish jumped and left circles in the calm water. A breeze embraced the trees and me—something good.
When the world or life seems heavy and beyond my control, I always have one thing I can do—look for something good.
Will you join me?
Even the sun opens its arms for a moment of bliss, like the day the sun spoke.
