Today is the winter solstice, the longest night and shortest day of 2024.
Solstice: from the Latin 'solstitium', meaning 'Sun stands still'
On this day, in the Northern Hemisphere, the North Pole is furthest away from the sun as it appears to stand still, then changes direction leading back to the light.
Humans have watched this phenomenon across time and cultures, creating celebrations and rituals. It is only one of many natural experiences that bind us as humankind.
A Gift of Hope
