Hello friends,
When I think of endings, the last days of the year come to mind first. This is when I reflect on the events of the past year and all the mundane days that populate our lives.
Then on January 1, I’m ready to begin. A new day, a new year, dawns full of promise and hope.
Does one single tick of the clock offer the only chance to take another turn in the road? I think not.
Who would ever consider May as a month to celebrate endings? As a teacher, my anticipation for the end of the school year accelerated as those final days came in sight. My colleagues and I ticked off the days.
Students weren’t the only ones wishing the month blissfully away. The excitement ran palpable throughout the building. Everyone could taste the delicious days of summer.
May graduations mark a milestone, an endpoint, signaling accomplishments and permission to move onward. Spring’s gentle breezes and fleeting blossoms begin to fade. I bid farewell to the daffodils and spring wildflowers. The long hours of darkness give way to light.
I hear the weighty moans of change. No one wants to let go of the comfort of familiarity. Yet, when you watch nature, it’s all about change. Everything around us flows through constant transitions and neverending cycles of beginnings and endings. Why would we expect our human lives to be any different from other living things?
As May slips by, summer jumps into the scene with fresh perspectives. The long days invite playfulness. Lazy days lure us away from the frazzle and haste of busyness.
The earth’s wisdom calls us to rest for a spell.
Change is coming. It always does.
Any month, any day, or any moment waits ripe for new dreams and new opportunities. What new beginnings wait for you as June rolls in?
Blackberries usher in the summer with ripe berries, sugar, and a little love.
Bruce Fieler shares the secret to mastering life’s biggest transitions.
A few songs for those lazy days: “Summer Song” by Chad and Jeremy, “Summer in the City” with The Lovin Spoonful, and one of my favorite Gershwin tunes, “Summertime“ sung by Ella Fitzgerald.
Live in the sunshine, swim in the sea, drink in the wild air.

All changes, even the most longed for, have their melancholy; for what we leave behind us is a part of ourselves; we must die to one life before we can enter another.
—Anatole France
Find a little wonder this week, rest, and enjoy the change.

The merry month of May brings us to the end
Aww. Yes, we’re moving forward everyday. Nature ushers us forward.
I picked Juneberries from my young tree yesterday before the birds devour them all. What a joy. The blueberries wait their turn…
Blessings on your last May days, my lovely friend. I bless you. Xoxo
