Hello friends,
I’m jealous.
Since September, I’ve watched the photos of fall’s transforming colors roll across my social media feeds. The weather here in southeast Texas doesn’t produce the multi-faceted cacophony of hues that cooler climates boast.
Finally, October blessed us with that slight chill in the morning air and the hypnotizing smell of earth, cool winds, and falling leaves. At last, I could join the celebration.
Every fall, I would move that new sweater to a place of honor in my closet—waiting. Waiting for the day I could pull it up tight and walk into the blustery winds of change that only fall delivers.
This week, I went on a hunt to relive past autumns. No deep thoughts or messages today. Nature tells the story and delivers inspiration without much help from me.
Enjoy . . .
It was a beautiful, bright autumn day, with air like cider and a sky so blue you could drown in it. —Diana Gabaldon, Outlander
“As long as autumn lasts, I shall not have hands, canvas and colors enough to paint the beautiful things I see.” —Vincent Van Gogh
“Every leaf speaks bliss to me, fluttering from the autumn tree.” —Emily Brontë
“Is not this a true autumn day? Just the still melancholy that I love — that makes life and nature harmonize.” —George Eliot
“It’s the first day of autumn! A time of hot chocolatey mornings, and toasty marshmallow evenings, and, best of all, leaping into leaves!” —Winnie the Pooh
I wrote this during my senior year of high school. The words continue to reflect Uncertainty: Finding a New Vision after Darkness.
Why do we love fall? Meteorologists have a few reasons. What’s yours?
My mother loved the song, Autumn Leaves. I played it for her as her memory slipped away, like those same falling leaves.
“And all the lives we ever lived and all the lives to be are full of trees and changing leaves ...”
—Virginia Wolf
Find a little wonder this week, and don’t forget to vote!
With gratitude,
Kathryn
