Hi Kathryn. Thank you for this reminder of poetry. It reminded me of my sweet brother who passed away last year. Every month when he got his Western Horseman magazine he would turn to the back to read Baxter Blacks often humorous poems about the ranching lifestyle. I mostly listen to country music and I really appreciate interesting and clever lyrics. One of my favorite is Thomas Rhett. I still remember discovering poems as a very small child in a poem called Purple Cow. I can’t say I have a favorite poem but I really like I Want to Age Like Sea Glass

by Bernadette Noll. I’m amazed by people who write novels in verse and love to read them. I highly recommend Out of the Dust by Karen Hesse but there are many other good ones.

Oh, I remember this little gem...the music of the words and the funny ending that made me smile.

The Purple Cow

I never saw a Purple Cow,

I never hope to see one,

But I can tell you, anyhow,

I’d rather see than be one!

Gelett Burges 1866 – 1951

What a happy reminder. Thanks for the memory and the smile. I needed both.

Country music is home to many lovely poem songs, especially from the likes of Willie Nelson and Kris Kristofferson, to name only two. Thank you!

Thanks Kathryn! I resonate with everything you’ve written. Poetry is a spiritual practice. A portal to presence. Poetry is an act of resilience that opens up the door to transformation. Keep writing. We need you. 🙏❤️
